Beastie Boy Adam Yauch, known within the group as MCA, has died, according to celebrity gossip site TMZ. Yauch was 47 and had been battling cancer since 2009.

Yauch founded the Grammy-winning Beastie Boys with fellow New York City rappers Mike D, Mix Master Mike, and Ad Roc in 1979. The rapper had recently become a vegan on the recommendation of Tibetan doctors, and had undergone radiation therapy and surgery for his cancer, which affected his parotid gland and a lymph node. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

Disco queen Donna Summer has died, a family spokesperson told the Associated Press. She was 63.

Her family released a statement Thursday saying Summer had died and that they "are at peace celebrating her extraordinary life and her continued legacy."'

Summer had been living in Englewood, Fla., with her husband Bruce Sudano.

TMZ first reported the news, noting Summer had died in Florida on Thursday after a long battle with cancer. Insiders told TMZ she was recently working on music for a new album.
